Abstract
These increasing amounts of food waste produced annually by the increasing global population have been blamed on issues of environmental degradation and the resultant depletion of resources. The science world is rising to the challenge by working on sustainable methods of optimizing traditional food waste management techniques. The presence of nutrients in agricultural and food processing by-products has made them promising substrates for bioconversion into precious bioproducts such as industrial enzymes, biofuels, and bioactive compounds.
